Madeira Race 2008

The highlight of the RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club) calendar in 2008 is the inaugural Madeira race which starts on August 11 2008 in the Solent. The race is split into two legs of 1300 miles with a stop in Madeira.

If you are looking for real adventure this year then this could be the one for you.
The Madeira Race is a tough ocean race that will push the team aboard Puma Logic, our hugely successful Reflex 38, to their limits. The team will develop over the summer with strong camaraderie and a unified set of core values and goals. Philippe Falle, one of the countries most successful offshore skippers in recent years, will be skippering Puma Logic for the campaign.

At Sailing Logic we provide top quality training which has been the key of the success of our offshore racing campaigns. Our teams have always consisted of mixed abilities from novice racers to experienced offshore sailors. This provides a fantastic platform for everyone to learn new skills and develop to a high standard.

We anticipate that each leg of the race will take between eight and twelve days. Each leg counts as a separate race and there will be an overall race result too for the elapsed time of both races. We have structured the team to allow five of the spaces to be taken by crew who can only undertake one of the legs with the other five spaces for those hardened enthusiasts who want to commit to the complete race.

Training for this arduous race is very important. We have scheduled two training weekends and six RORC qualifying races which will prepare the team for the challenge ahead. During the training the team will work on all aspects of offshore racing including safety, meteorology, sail trim, helming, victualing, boat preparation, watch systems, team work, sail changes, reefing and communications.
